Adobe On Location CS4
Take advantage of an efficient, metadata-driven workflow
Use fast, efficient logging tools during recording in Adobe® OnLocation™ CS4 to add metadata that increases productivity at every stage in the production process.
Familiar, customizable Adobe user interface new
Get working quickly and efficiently with a user interface that looks and operates like the interface in the Adobe video and audio applications you already know. Adobe OnLocation CS4 is designed so that all functions are visible and available on a standard laptop screen, so you don't have to scroll and search through menus while on set.
Comprehensive XMP metadata new
Use the Metadata panel to view, find, and add metadata to assets in the Shot List. Easily manage metadata across assets by selecting multiple items in the Shot List. The Metadata panel shows metadata that is common across the selected items and lets you apply changes to all with one action. Because the data is stored in XMP format, it flows automatically to your other Adobe audio and video applications.
Workflow integration with Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 new
Move content from Adobe OnLocation CS4 to Adobe Premiere® Pro software quickly and easily, while retaining important information. Use the Shot List to identify the good takes, and then use the transfer feature to collect those clips and transfer them for editing in Adobe Premiere Pro. Metadata entered during shooting in Adobe OnLocation is available in Adobe Premiere Pro, helping to speed up the editing stage of production.
Shot List with multiple takes new
Use Adobe OnLocation to manage your video shoot. Before shooting, create placeholder shots in the Shot List, complete with metadata. Adobe OnLocation can automatically create new takes each time you rerecord, with each take inheriting metadata from the master shot.
Fast logging new
Log shots in the Shot List using a tabular interface that works like a spreadsheet. Navigate through the most commonly used data fields using the keyboard. Metadata is stored in XMP format. This fast, efficient method of data entry lets you gather more useful information at the time of the shoot, enabling greater efficiency in post-production.
Content search in the Shot List new
Find the content you need quickly in the Shot List using the inline search feature. Type the first few letters of a keyword, and the list of files is filtered as you type so that only relevant items are shown. Search across all data fields or specify a particular field.
Keyboard-driven workflowenhanced
Drive Adobe OnLocation CS4 using keyboard commands, promoting fast, efficient operation while on set. For example, while checking continuity, using a keyboard shortcut to toggle between full and partial opacity in the monitor makes it easier to position the camera while checking the results.
Customizable keyboard shortcuts new
Customize keyboard commands throughout the application so that it works the way you want. Save and recall keyboard shortcut sets to make it easier to move from system to system.
Comment markers new
Use comment markers to make notes during recording. Comments are attached to the exact time in the content, making it easy to review specific parts of the recording while still at the shoot.
Undo and Redo options new
Easily correct mistakes, particularly during logging, with multiple levels of Undo and Redo.
Workspaces new
Switch between tasks quickly using workspaces to recall commonly used user interface configurations.
Dual-monitor support new
Take advantage of extra screen resolution with support for dual monitors.
Capture and edit faster with direct-to-disk recording
Capture DV, HDV, and DVCPRO HD footage directly to disk and start editing sooner by eliminating the tedious capturing process.
Direct-to-disk recording from DV, HDV, and P2-based cameras
Work with the digital video recorder (DVR) included in Adobe OnLocation CS4, which lets you bypass tape completely during shooting. Connect your camera to your laptop and start recording directly to hard disk. Review footage immediately after recording, import it into the Adobe Premiere Pro project window, and start editing right away. Impress your clients with fast turnaround of same-day edits at events. On set, immediate review of footage helps you ensure that every shot is good.
Flexible recording options
Record content to internal and external hard drives using simple controls that are similar to a VTR or your camera. Name recorded clips individually, or set up global names (for example, Take 1) for automatic naming. No more limits imposed by tapes or expensive memory cards — recording time is limited only by hard-drive space. A single two-hour event can be recorded to one clip.
Pre-Record Buffer
Use the Pre-Record Buffer to help ensure you never miss the beginning of an event again. Before you even hit Record, Adobe OnLocation CS4 is recording from your camera, saving up to 30 seconds of action that will be included at the start of each recording.
Flexible slave recording mode
Record directly to disk while making a backup to tape with slave recording. When the camcorder starts recording, Adobe OnLocation does too. In Adobe OnLocation CS4, slave mode can be changed at any time during recording, making it easy to start recording in sync and then continue recording to disk while changing tapes on the camera.
Storyboard creation
Save high-resolution stills directly from live video or clips in the Shot List, making it easy to create storyboards or grab reference frames for client approval. Capture images in standard JPEG, BMP, or PNG format.
Pauses during recording
Pause in the middle of a recording without creating a new clip. This feature is especially useful when recording interviews, such as legal depositions.
Work with professional on-set monitoring tools
Use professional on-set monitoring tools to calibrate your camera, set levels, and monitor signals to obtain high-quality video and audio and help avoid time-consuming and potentially costly problems.
Camera calibration
Calibrate your camera for exceptional quality in any environment. The SureShot camera setup module provides tools to set up focus, white balance, and exposure — you don't need to know anything about waveforms or traditional scopes. SureShot works automatically, using custom calibration charts on a camera setup card included with Adobe OnLocation.
Scene continuity
Help ensure that all aspects of continuity — color, lighting, audio, and more — match from one scene to the next using the full complement of shooting tools in Adobe OnLocation. Use the field monitor in Split Screen or Onion Skin mode to compare one clip to another and catch wandering microphones or changes in camera framing, brightness, and more. The waveform monitors and vectorscope also work in Split Screen mode, so even subtle differences in color or brightness can be corrected with ease.
Lighting adjustments
Instantly see if your shot is too bright or too dark and make camera setting or lighting adjustments. The waveform monitor measures the brightness of the video signal and displays it numerically. Get better results when compositing and doing greenscreen work. The RGB waveform monitor shows individual color components of your video, enabling you to adjust color precisely.
Consistent color balance
Use the vectorscope to maintain color balance in your content by measuring chrominance and signal strength. Maintain consistency in skin tones when lighting changes between shots, and help ensure that colors match across cameras when shooting for multicam editing.
Resizable field monitor
Get a close-up view of the content as it records using the ability to resize and zoom the field monitor. The monitor provides features similar to those found on high-end broadcast field monitors, making it easy to make critical decisions at the time of shooting. In addition, it provides unique features for freezing, zooming, and comparing video content.
